All We Hear is Radio Praha

Another newflash from me! I recently had the great privilege to be interviewed by Ian Willoughby, journalist, radio presenter and doyen of the Anglophone community in the Czech Republic. Taking a break from interviewing A-lister celebrities and politicians, he got me on Radio Prague International to talk about my personal Czech experience – the country, the people and their magnificent language.

This meant I got to (briefly) broadcast the good news of linguistics and its usefulness in learning languages, before the conversation then turned to beer, history and mothers-in-law. You can find the full article here, or listen here:

It was carthatic also to focus on my frustration with grammatical aspect in Czech, a key feature of Slavic languages that both fascinates and continously thwarts me. I even included it as one of my Top Ten Terrors of the language back in 2020, and I don’t feel like I’ve made much progress since.

Sincere apologies for the lack of proper articles recently – I am currently working to rectify that dearth with an August piece on archaic features of English. Watch this space!
