A linguistic newsflash from me:
My podcast, A Language I Love Is…, has started its third series! This is the podcast that’s all about languages, linguistics and love, which allows me to spend time chatting to linguistic experts and discussing particular languages in great depth. The episodes are freely available on major podcast platforms, such as Acast, Apple Podcasts and Spotify:
- Acast: https://shows.acast.com/a-language-i-love-is
- Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a-language-i-love-is/id1703401848
- Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5n30BD1EvWj7AxUdguR8N1?si=52e0fcb559b5449b
It’s also available on YouTube:
The podcast remains a personal passion project, and it seems like quite a humble audio offering when compared with well-established linguistic shows, but it nonetheless has been welcomed with a very warm response. People’s continuing enthusiasm for and engagement with ALILI are absolutely the primary reasons why I’ve brought it back. The process of creating the episodes is time-consuming, so it’s the thought that people out there actually want to listen to it that has given me the necessary motivation.
At time of writing, I’ve interviewed five guests, and released one of those interviews. The delightful Gretchen McCulloch, one of the stars of the Lingthusiasm podcast, kicks off this third series with her introduction to the linguistics of modern-day Canada, specifically the speech of the city of Montreal. Gretchen plentifully provides the expertise and the enthusiasm that the show is all about, with lots of amusing anecdotes and observations.
Future episodes are in the production pipeline, and if you would like to nominate particular languages or guests to star in their own episode, feel free to get in touch.
Lastly, I would like to share that ALILI now has a Patreon profile! If you would like to support the show, and gain access to some Patreon-exclusive content, I would be thrilled and very grateful to see you over there.
So, that’s the end of this podcast bulletin. Till the next time, dear reader, keep well, and keep loving language.
